Based on the Dreamcatcher South Africa model, 2 dump sites have been closed through collaboration with local authorities. One of the dump sites has been transformed into a botanical garden. Dreamcatcher played a significant role to stop the illegal open burning of waste close to the community. Reusing the waste where it is generated is also saving disposable vehicle emissions. For crafts we are using invador plant species so the indigenous species can thrive again. This waste managing model called “Wasteland, Graced Land” is being implemented abroad by partners. The initiative is globally recognised because of its profound results. Our goal is to internationally collaborate to improve waste management and reduce the open burning of waste and its carbon footprint.
