Children’s Story Books dedicated to Cognitive Development Key to Sustainable Futures for All

Sonstraal Kleuterskool in Darling

Sharing the Utopia Foundation’s (USA) passion to promote and facilitate cognitive development and literacy skills in children – in April 2022 Dreamcatcher was appointed to administer and manage the distribution of books in South Africa. On 31st December 2023 we completed our tenure managing the STEPi – (Squaring the Education Pyramid Institute) programme in South Africa.

Partnering with STEPi we distributed story and activity books developed and written around the themes of mathematics, geography, cognitive -and emotional wellness to help children develop into contributing adults and leaders of all our tomorrows.

Our team joyfully hit the road to distribute books across multiple communities. This included meeting with head teachers and teaching staff to explain the project and assess which books were best suited for the grade levels and curriculum milestones, conducting in-class readings and interactive sessions, assessing impact and providing follow up support.

Excitingly in March 2023 we were blessed to host the American musician Dennis Warner and his talented band who gave performances focusing on diversity and inclusivity, as part of their ‘Beads on One String’ project as volunteers on their travels around South Africa.

We are proud of our impact which included directly engaging and distributing 7,390 books across 73 different schools and other organisations across 39 regions of South Africa. By December 2023 we had distributed a further 19,300 books to distribution points around South Africa – this included to STEPi coordinators functioning in other provinces, as well as directly to schools.

We continue to work closely with many of these communities. You can find out more on our work and impact on the STEPi page.
